I’m sometimes lucky enough to spot hares on the Fylde Coast and around Stalmine, often just fleeting glimpses as they dart through open fields, woodland edges, or hedgerows. The best times to see them are usually dawn, dusk, and early spring, when these shy but beautiful creatures are most active.
These encounters inspired my series of whimsical hare art prints, including the design shown here. Each piece is created from my own hand-drawn work and developed digitally into original art pieces, celebrating the wildlife of Lancashire and the natural world around us.
I haven’t been but I am told one of the best places to see hares locally is Winmarleigh Moss, a stunning restoration site managed by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust: lancswt.org.uk.
It’s also reassuring to know that the Fylde Rural Task Force works hard to protect hares, tackling illegal hare coursing with new high-tech equipment: lythamstannes.news.
